Frequently Asked Questions | Trumpet & Piano Lessons

Why learn with Sounds Good Music Studio?
Sounds Good Music Studio offers fun and rewarding piano, music theory and trumpet lessons with teachers who are experienced and passionate about music. Cameron and Ruth tailor their lessons to the individual student, so that they can progress musically, meet personal goals, and have fun while doing so. Sounds Good is a place to explore and enjoy the hugely fulfilling world of music!
How much are lessons?

Lessons are priced at $33/half-hour. This price reflects teaching time, preparation time, and some of the resources used during the lesson. Lessons are available in 30 minute and 1 hour time-slots.

Is my child ready to begin trumpet or piano lessons?

While there is no one ‘right’ age to begin learning an instrument, it is important for a child to be able to follow instructions and willingly concentrate for the length of a lesson (for beginners, this is usually 30 minutes). As such, we accept students from age 7 onward. Lessons for primary aged students are much more casual and focused on short and varied activities, rather than the more structured lessons for a 13-year-old beginner, for example. If you’re  not sure whether or not your child is ready to begin piano or trumpet lessons, contact Cameron or Ruth here to discuss this and the various options available.

Do you offer ABRSM/Trinity Guildhall exam tuition?
Yes, we offer tuition for practical exams in both ABRSM and Trinity (grades 1-8+), as well as ABRSM theory exams. Exams can be a really valuable way of measuring progress and achieving personal goals; however, they are not compulsory, and playing purely for enjoyment, whether alongside exams or not, is both encouraged and highly recommended.
Can I meet with Cam or Ruth before signing up to lessons?
Yes! We offer a free trial lesson so that you can see whether our studio will be a good fit for you. Get in touch here to enquire about an available time.
Do you offer Grade 5 theory exam preparation?

Yes! Many students find themselves ready to sit ABRSM Grade 5 (or beyond) in their respective instrument, but haven’t yet obtained the required Grade 5 theory pass. We offer lessons designed to ensure success in exams, and can work with students to meet necessary timeframe requirements.  Contact us to find out more!
